The History of the CONTROL'D Group

The Control'd group came into being when our founders, James E Shanel and Harold S Gray left Honeywell in January 1955 and started a wholesale distribution company - Control'd Engineering Supply.  At the start, they sold controls from stock carried in their vans.  Our first warehouse was located on Washington Street in Wheaton Illinois.  This warehouse proved to be too small so in 1958 Control'd moved into our current headquarters located at 299 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.  This location has been expanded twice to accomodate our needs, once in 1966 and again in 1972.  In 1972, we acquired another distributor located in Rockford Illinois.  This is now Control'd Climate Distributors located at 635 7th Street.  In 1984, we opened a new branch on Cicero Avenue in Alsip Illinois.  In 1988 we moved that branch one mile south to its current location at 13500 South Kenton Avenue in Crestwood Illinois.  Also in 1988, we opened Control'd Engineering Supply North located at 28915 N Herky Drive in Lake Bluff Illinois.  In 1993, the current owners, James J Shanel and William C Shanel, purchased the Control'd group.  After more than 50 years,  each member of the Control'd family is here to serve you with the best heating, air conditioning and hydronics products and services!
